How to plan your week in 20 minutes
Daily plans fail when the week behind them is overloaded. Twenty minutes once a week fixes most of that.

Pick a fixed time
Friday afternoon and Sunday evening work best for most people. Friday lets you close the week while it is fresh, Sunday lets you start Monday with no decisions left. Put it in your calendar as an appointment.
Step 1: Look back (5 minutes)
What got done? What moved from day to day and never happened? A task that has been postponed three times needs a decision: do it, break it into smaller steps or delete it.
Step 2: Look ahead (5 minutes)
Go through your calendar for the coming week: meetings, deadlines, travel, family things. Then list the three results that would make this a good week. These are outcomes, not chores.
Step 3: Spread the load (5 minutes)
Give each important task a day. Heavy days with many meetings get fewer tasks. Check that no day has more than five or six, and move the rest to lighter days before the week starts rather than during it.
Step 4: Protect one block (5 minutes)
Choose one or two stretches of time for your hardest work and treat them like meetings. A week usually goes well if the most important work has a place to happen.
Common mistakes
- Filling every day to the limit, so one delay breaks the week
- Writing tasks too large to finish, such as “work on the report”
- Skipping the review in busy weeks, when it matters most
